Kurt, Paul and company repainted our 1908 house after the removal of aluminum siding from the 1970s. The job included pulling staples, removing some siding, and filling countless holes.

This company exemplifies excellent customer service. Kurt was always available, remembered to do what we asked, and thoroughly addressed all of our needs. They even touched areas of the house that were not within the original bid. The caulking was neat, and they back-brushed in the paint while still leaving air gaps for the siding to breathe.

Working with A Fresh Coat Painting was a fantastic experience. During the bid process, they were extremely helpful and even helped us finalize our color choices. Our job was quite extensive — we wanted to use over ten colors total for three bedrooms, a den, a living room, a dining room/kitchen, and a half bath. Every room was painted in a two-tone scheme. It was a huge job that took just over a week, but they were extremely efficient and made sure our home was livable during the job. They paid extreme attention to detail during the prep and painting portions of the job. The job was finished on time, on budget, and our home was left cleaner than it was before the job. Kurt and Paul were both a pleasure to work with. They are attentive and responsive to customers' wants. They are ready to offer helpful suggestions if asked, but are always willing to do things your way. It's pretty easy to tell when someone likes his job and when he doesn't. Paul and Kurt both appear to really enjoy what they do, especially if you give them something challenging or a little out of the ordinary. In our case we asked for accent walls in two rooms, which involved a lot of intricate cut lines between the colors, and the Venetian plaster application in the salon. They painted the entire interior of our roughly 2700 sq. ft. house (except closets), walls and ceilings only, but also touched up areas of the trim where the old wall color had bled onto it. The house has a lot of detailed trim work. In our living room they did a beautiful faux finish ragging-type technique, but the rest of the rooms were just regular paint. Two places needed drywall repair because of prior electrical work done in the walls and they took care of that, too.

It went great! This was simply one of the best experiences I've had with a contractor. Paul came out to the house for an estimate, which he emailed to me within just a couple of days. I was immediately impressed that he was very personable and seemed easy to work with, and I had read so many glowing reports on Angie's List that although his bid did come in a little higher than some, we decided to hire him. There was time between then and when they were actually able to start, and during that time we worked with Paul on final decisions about the colors, and on the technique that would be used for the living room faux finish. He brought us samples of Venetian plaster, but although that was beautiful, it just didn't seem to go with our house. We had small sample cans of the colors we wanted in that room and with those he prepared a few sample boards in various ragging/sponging/etc., techniques, which he had even sprayed with texture so we could see how it would actually look on our textured walls. Between those and some further discussion about what we liked or disliked about certain looks (through which Paul was very patient with our decision making process!), he ended up painting exactly the finished look we were going for in our living room. The other two guys he had here painting, Jon and Chris, were courteous and showed attention to detail as well.

They took down light fixtures, etc., and painted very careful lines, so that everything looks beautiful. There were two areas where we had drywall repair to be done (we'd had some wiring done previously) that we hadn't gotten around to, and they did a lovely job with that, too. I know that we paid a little more than we might have with some companies, but I really feel that the ease with which we worked together, the attention to detail, and the quality of our living room faux finish were worth paying for. I would use these guys without hesitation, and would recommend them to anyone.

A Fresh Coat kept in touch so that we knew when to expect work to begin, actually starting four days ahead of schedule. Painters worked around rainy weather expertly, focusing on covered areas when weather was disagreeable, and on exposed areas during fair days. They were thorough in prep work (sanding & priming) as well as final coat, and also discovered rotting wood at base of support posts (which was repaired before painting). The total result is that all newly-painted areas no longer appear as 15 year old material. Painters had great positive attitudes and seemed to enjoy their work. We could not be more pleased!!!

I wanted to tell you again how much I am enjoying the mantle you painted for me. Today it was just stunning! I came home at about 1 pm and the sun was shining through the windows on to the natural wood floor and the reflected light off the floor on to the mantle made the mantle glow all on its own. First I was confused as to where the light was coming from, it was as if someone put a spotlight on just the mantle. Nothing else around it picked up the glow. Wow! I don’t know if that was part of your plan in the painting, but what an amazing effect. Of course, the mantle always looks great. In any light. You did a wonderful job. I am so glad I just turned you lose and let you do your thing, because it came out perfect. It was so great to be able to trust you and not have to supervise. Paul provided a thorough and complete estimate. Paul and Kurt followed up a few weeks later and we decided to go with them. Prep work was fantastic. Kitchen and Family Room were completely sealed off from the rest of the house. Hard wood floors and carpet were completely covered. Previous owner did a horrible job painting the cabinets. Painted red. Brush strokes and drips were everywhere. Cabinets were sanded and prepped on site. Several spray coats and sanding sessions later, cabinets were beautiful. We chose and off white. Paul came back several times to touch up small areas and to align cabinet doors. Walls and ceilings turned out fantastic as well. Thorough clean-up.

Because I was new to Portland I had some difficulty knowing who to hire for the painting of my newly purchased downtown Portland condo. My good fortune was finding A Fresh Coat Painting and meeting Kurt Deppisch. I soon discovered that Kurt and Paul, the owners of this painting business are not only painters, they are artists. Kurt is willing to follow directions and he is eager to please but when he is given the option of coming up with creative ideas the results have been amazing. After the completion of painting the entire condo interior, with accent colors, Kurt has used a trowel to create a concrete faux stone finish over the balcony floors and he has trimmed both with decorative tile. It has been an affordable and attractive change and everyone who sees them, offers compliments and asks for his business card. This is a business that is dedicated to customer satisfaction. I am presently planning to redecorate another condo and we have already discussed new creative painting options.

A Fresh Coat Painting LLC, LLC transformed my house! From the biding process through the final walk through, Kurt and the crew were responsive, professional, and performed high quality work. I contracted with A Fresh Coat Painting LLC to paint every wall in my house and they were on time and on budget. Additionally, their technique was flawless! I was please to find ZERO defects with their work. I have and will continue to recommend this company to my family and friends.

The job had two parts: (1) repainting an accent wall (8 x 20 ft) in the master bedroom, including portions extending into two closets, and (2) painting over a corner stain on a high (24 foot) living room ceiling with one paint and then applying a couple of coats of another color on the wall approx. 15 feet below to cover the resurfacing of the water-damaged area. After the new paint was applied in the bedroom, there were traces of the original wall color on the floor molding. This was due, as it turned out, to the sloppiness of the original painters who had not taped the molding carefully four years ago. Kurt sent one of his workers to redo the molding paint, even though it wasn't his responsibility and, strictly speaking, he didn't have to. I appreciate that he made it right and I am very pleased with the improved appearance of the room.

I needed a medium sized bathroom vanity painted (sprayed) in place. The vanity had previously been painted with oil based paint and had discolored over the years. I wanted to switch over to latex paint which would be easier to maintain in the future. Making the switch from oil to latex needs a little extra work. I asked them to be careful with their spraying as I had just repainted the bathroom and had new granite countertops installed.

The other painters that I contacted really didn't want this small job (understandable), but Kurt approached it with as much professionalism as a larger job. His masking and painting was quick and thorough so as to minimize the inconvenience and mess for me. Kurt was even flexible enough to allow me to do extra trimwork on the vanity halfway through his job (I had mentioned before he started that I would have loved to add some trimwork had I had more time). A Fresh Coat Painting was responsible for painting our vaulted ceilings and walls throughout our home with the exception of our bathrooms and bedrooms. So this project included a formal dining/living area, kitchen/pantry, stairs/hallway, 2 offices and a powder room.

Kurt sent his estimate for our project in the mail about one week after we initially met. We made some changes via e-mail. We decided to paint the ceilings and go with Devine paint versus a less expensive brand. His estimate to paint the ceiling was very reasonable and his overall price was very fair with the 10% discount to Angie's list members. There was a slight bit of confusion how they were going to increase their estimate with the Devine low VOC brand but in the end we were not charged extra. The project took one week and we thought it best to stay in a hotel because of our small children. The crew took care of all of the necessary prep work and caulked the proper areas. They used two coats of paint and we were very impressed with their workmanship. We have a curved archway that we used one color of paint on one side and another on the other. A fresh coat painting more than met our expectations. We had hired two other Angie's list recommended painting companies in the past and we are very glad to have tried this company and we plan on using them in the future! Kurt promptly came back after completion to fix the couple of minor issues we found including repairing a fallen blind.

Prep and paint walls, ceilings, some closets, doors and trim in approx.1000 sq ft. of living area including living/dining/ master, foyer, bath and office. Prior to painting all big furniture and floors were covered. All the trim had to be extensively sanded to remove old brush and roller marks. All trim, including casement window frames and French doors, were masked and spray painted with several coats of semi gloss. Price included Divine paint on the ceilings and Benjamin-Moor on walls.

My wife and I and our two Bernese Mountain dogs moved downstairs for the 10 day process. The sanding was extensive but the painters vacuumed it up daily. Yes there was a fine coating of dust everywhere but that has been cleaned up now. The owners Kurt and Paul were here much of the time and Chris and another helper were the rest of the crew. The painters removed and successfully replaced all window, drape and door hardware to facilitate painting. The paint was "green" so odors from that were minimal. At the end the crew spent nearly two days finishing up, replacing all the furniture and cleaning everything. We have lived in the newly painted area for several days now and have not found any omissions or anything but impeccable workmanship.

Description Of Work:

Complete baseboard to ceiling repaint of our living/dining area. Two coordinated colors used on various walls, plus repaint of the ceiling. The north/south walls went to a blue color, and the east/west walls went to a beige color, plus 15 foot cathedral ceilings. Fixed popped nails, settling-cracks. Lots of corners and junctures where different paint colors intersected, requiring a sharp cut-over.

The project completely met all of our expectations. All walls and ceiling surfaces received two coats of paint. All of the corners and intersections were hand-brushed. Nail pops were fixed. The project required a great deal of edge taping. Our hardwood floors were protected and furniture was covered in plastic sheeting. The project required 2 1/2 days of hard work, all executed cheerfully.

Repainting of kitchen, two bath rooms and utility room. But most difficult, and beautiful, job was refinishing 18 window casings and a wall...all solid cedar and dating from 1971. Color match was difficult as was finish match but we are VERY pleased with the results. The interior painting of the baths, kitchen, etc., is very good also, though it is exactly what you'd expect from a professional painting company.

Painter showed up promptly as promised to do estimate. Very professional yet friendly approach. When the job was authorized the crews showed up when and where promised and caused the minimum possible disruption to our household. There was no "overspray" or "paint splash" on surfaces not involved in the work, including our newly-installed floor coverings. They also re-finished all of our kitchen cabinets. They did an excellent job on that, too. A Fresh Coat will certainly be our first choice for future painting projects, especially any further restoration of our cedar interior walls.
